HRH Oba Ajibola Oluyede

Described by a National Newspaper as the “quintessential Lawyer” he effectively traversed the entire gamut of legal Practice in Nigeria as a litigator. Admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1981, he began legal practice and quickly earned a reputation as a tough litigator and commercial lawyer with special interest in cross border financial transactions and compliance with money laundering as well as other regulations. Highly respected in banking, finance and investment circles, he represented the interests of the Nigerian Creditors of the London Trust Bank in its administration by Price Waterhouse Coopers London and led the Creditors Committee in the eventual CVA of that entity. His advise and influence was pivotal in the record recovery of Nigerian funds tied up in the institution when the United Kingdom Financial Services Authority withdrew its license. He was involved in advising the major actors in the Banking reform in Nigeria and wrote prolifically on the subject.

HRH Ajibola Oluyede had vast experience in labour law and employment matters representing clients in negotiations, mediation and litigation in various courts in Nigeria. His experience in employment related matters cut across diverse fields of public and private employment matters and trade disputes in the energy, oil & gas, banking, telecommunication and aviation sectors.

Under his leadership, the work of the TRLPLAW litigation team changed the legal landscape in Nigeria, pertaining to Contempt of Court, by engendering a clearer understanding of the distinctions procedurally and jurisprudentially between Civil and criminal contempt. He was also involved in the Nigerian energy sector as legal adviser, consultant to private sector interests in the privatization program of the Nigerian Federal Government. His practice specialization included project finance law. He withdrew from active practice in 2021 when he ascended to take the ancestral throne of Ayede Ogbese, Ondo State where he remained as King until his demise in December 2023.
